Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialists (COMS) provide sequential instruction to individuals with visual impairment in the use of their remaining senses to determine their position within the environment and in techniques to safely move from one place to another.

COMS provide a set of functional skills that can provide students with awareness of their environment resulting in increased motivation, independence and safety.
