Special Education Program Support

AUTISM: A neurological condition that results in a different way of perceiving the world.

Children with the impairment of autism frequently present unique challenges to teachers and support staff responsible for meeting the child’s educational needs.

Numerous training and technical assistance opportunities are available throughout the year to assist in ongoing staff development designed to improve educational outcomes for children with autism.

Assistive Technology is defined as “any item, piece of equipment, or product system, whether acquired off the shelf, modified, or customized, that is used to increase, maintain, or improve functional capabilities of children with disabilities.

IDEA Law requires school districts to ensure that assistive technology devices and services are provided if needed by a student in order to receive a free and appropriate public education (FAPE).

This program can assist school districts in providing assistive technology (AT) as an accommodation for students with disabilities.

The assistive technology consultant can provide AT support for district planning, as well as individual student evaluations and support. In addition, this program will maintain a lending library of AT materials available to schools wishing to test them with students.
